Founded by Donald Hennessy in 1984. (First Chairman)

It's been more than 26 years since the January 24, 1984 introduction of the very first Macintosh. $2499 for a machine with 1/8 megabyte of memory. Compare that, for the same price, to a Dual 2GHz G5 with 512MB of memory, 4096 times more. The G5 has 149.03GB space on it's hard drive. The original Mac did not have any hard drive, did not even support one internally or externally. It did support 3.5 inch single density micro-floppy disks which held just under 400 kilobytes of data. Not bad for 20 years; 372,575 times more capacity not to mention access time nor throughput. The computer now can show 8,388,608 more colors then before, but that limit has not changed since 1991. Consider the CPU speed increase from 7.8333MHz to 2 times 2000 MHz, a mere 255.3 times faster, but the newer IBM PPC 970 CPU is far more efficient at doing more per clock cycle, it's processing speed is far greater than 255.3 times the old Motorola MC68000. For more old Mac stuff information, check out www.macmothership.com and www.apple-history.com.
